Why Head-On Collisions on Two-Lane Roads Can Be Dangerous
Roads such as Northeast Dusty Miller Avenue often carry traffic in both directions with only a center line separating vehicles. When a vehicle crosses into the opposite lane, drivers traveling the other way may have very little time to react.
Head-on collisions often result in severe damage because both vehicles may still be moving forward at the time of impact. The combined force of vehicles traveling in opposite directions can increase the likelihood of life-threatening injuries.
Rural and suburban two-lane roads may also include curves, limited shoulders, and varying speeds. These factors can make it more difficult for drivers to avoid a vehicle that suddenly enters their lane.
