The driver of the other vehicle was taken from the scene with moderate injuries, though additional details about his condition have not been released.

We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victim, and wish the injured driver a swift and full recovery.
Why Red-Light Violations Can Lead to Serious Intersection Crashes
Intersections such as Washington Boulevard and Flower Street are designed to manage traffic moving in several directions at once. Traffic signals help control when vehicles can safely enter the intersection.
When a driver enters an intersection against a red light, other vehicles may already be moving through on a green signal. This can create a sudden conflict between vehicles traveling at normal speeds.
These collisions often occur in the middle of intersections, where there is little room for drivers to avoid the crash. The force of a side impact or sudden change in direction may cause vehicles to spin or roll, increasing the chance of severe injuries.
