Manhattan, NY (March 9, 2026) – Two men were hurt early Monday morning, March 9, after a box truck struck film production equipment at an intersection in Manhattan. The incident occurred around 6:02 a.m. near West Houston Street and Sullivan Street, in front of 124 West Houston Street.

According to reports, a white box truck was traveling west on West Houston Street when it hit a lift holding a 34-year-old crew member. The impact caused the lift to collapse, sending the man to the ground.

A 66-year-old man who was standing nearby was then hit by the falling lift equipment. Both men were hurt during the incident and required medical attention.

Emergency units responded to the scene and took the two workers to a nearby hospital. Officials did not release details about their conditions.

Authorities said the truck continued west toward Sixth Ave and did not remain at the scene after the crash. Witnesses in the area said they were surprised by what happened, while members of the production crew declined to comment.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as they become available.

Our thoughts are with those affected as they continue to recover.

How Film Production Equipment Can Increase Roadside Risks

Large film productions often require equipment to be placed along busy streets, especially in cities with active movie and television industries. Lifts, lighting rigs, and camera platforms are commonly used to capture overhead shots or adjust lighting angles. These pieces of equipment can extend into roadways or sidewalks when crews are setting up scenes.

Because filming frequently occurs early in the morning, workers may be positioned close to traffic while preparing equipment. Vehicles passing through the area can pose risks if drivers are not aware of the production setup ahead.

Temporary equipment such as lifts and cranes also requires careful placement and monitoring. Barriers, cones, and traffic control measures are often used to create a safer workspace for crew members operating near the street.
