What Risks Are Often Present in Motorcycle Crashes Involving Large Trucks?
Motorcycle crashes involving large trucks often lead to severe outcomes because of the difference in vehicle size and weight. Motorcycles offer little physical protection, while trucks have higher ground clearance and larger blind spots, which can make riders harder to see.
These crashes may happen when vehicles merge, turn, or travel along the same roadway at different speeds. Limited reaction time and restricted visibility can increase the chance of a serious collision between a motorcycle and a much larger vehicle.
Impact forces in these crashes can be significant. Even at moderate speeds, the difference in mass between a motorcycle and a semi-truck can result in major damage and life-threatening injuries for the rider.
