Why Intersections Can Be Especially Dangerous for Motorcycles
Motorcycles are often more exposed than passenger vehicles, which can make intersections particularly hazardous. Riders have less protection during a crash and may be harder for other drivers to see, especially in busy urban areas with multiple lanes and turning traffic.
Many motorcycle collisions occur when another vehicle turns across the rider’s path. Drivers may misjudge the motorcycle’s speed or fail to notice it approaching the intersection. Limited visibility from buildings, parked cars, or traffic signals can also increase the risk.
Road surface conditions can affect motorcycles more than larger vehicles. Loose gravel, uneven pavement, or debris near intersections may cause riders to lose control quickly.
Because intersections combine stopping, turning, and crossing movements, they often require extra awareness from both riders and drivers sharing the road.
