Pedestrian Safety on Urban Streets
Intersections such as Southwest Sixth Street and Southwest Horne Street can create risk due to turning movements. When injuries are reported in Topeka, crews often work to stabilize traffic flow and protect those in the area.
Pedestrians and vehicles often share the same space in city corridors. Busy streets with multiple lanes or frequent turning traffic may increase the chance of a person being struck, especially during evening hours when visibility can be reduced.
Street lighting, traffic signals, and crosswalk placement can influence how safely people move through these intersections. When a collision occurs, the surrounding area may remain closed while responders clear debris and make sure the roadway is safe for travel.
