Pedestrian Risks on High-Speed Freeways
Routes carrying regional traffic near the Foothill Freeway and La Crescenta Avenue can experience serious dangers when pedestrians enter the roadway. When injury accidents are reported in La Crescenta, crews often focus on securing lanes and protecting drivers approaching the scene.
Freeways are designed for high-speed vehicle travel and typically do not include safe areas for pedestrians. Drivers may have little time to react when someone is present on the roadway, especially at night or in areas with limited lighting.
Because of these conditions, collisions involving pedestrians on freeways often result in severe outcomes. Road closures may also be necessary while crews assist those involved and clear the roadway.
