Why Multi-Semi Crashes on Highways Can Lead to Fires and Major Closures
Crashes involving large commercial trucks can quickly become complex emergencies. Semi-trucks carry large fuel tanks and heavy cargo, which can increase the risk of fires in serious collisions.
When multiple trucks collide, the impact force may damage fuel systems or cause vehicles to overturn, increasing the risk of ignition. Fire crews often must secure the scene quickly to prevent the flames from spreading.
These incidents also tend to block multiple lanes of traffic. Because commercial trucks are large and heavy, removing damaged vehicles and clearing debris can take several hours, often leading to extended highway closures and detours.
