Why School Bus Crashes Often Prompt Major Road Closures
Crashes involving school buses frequently lead to road closures while crews manage the scene. Because buses carry multiple passengers, responders often take extra precautions to make sure everyone is safe and accounted for.
Medical evaluations are commonly performed for students and staff, even when injuries are not immediately visible. This step helps ensure that anyone who may have been affected receives proper care.
Large vehicles like school buses can also block travel lanes or make it difficult for other vehicles to pass safely. Closing the roadway allows emergency units to work without additional traffic hazards.
During these responses, crews may also inspect the vehicles involved and clear debris from the roadway. Once the scene is secured and the vehicles are removed, traffic is typically allowed to resume through the area.
