Taylor Co., IA (March 13, 2026) – Injuries were reported after a two-vehicle crash on Thursday afternoon, March 12, at the intersection of Highway 148 and 130th Street west of Lenox in Taylor County.

Emergency units were dispatched around 3:31 p.m. following reports of a collision involving two vehicles at the rural intersection. When crews arrived, they found a damaged sport utility vehicle and a semi-truck involved in the crash.

Authorities said the people involved were taken to a hospital for treatment. Officials did not release the number of injured people or details about the severity of their injuries.

Photos from the scene showed significant front-end damage to the SUV, along with spilled grain and debris scattered across the roadway. Highway 148 was temporarily closed while investigators worked and crews cleared the road. The crash remains under investigation.

Our thoughts remain with those injured as they recover.

Why Rural Highway Intersections Can Be Risk Areas for Collisions

Intersections such as Highway 148 and 130th Street often connect local county roads with busier state highways. Vehicles traveling along the highway may move at higher speeds, while traffic entering from smaller roads must carefully judge when it is safe to cross or turn.

When larger vehicles like semi-trucks share the roadway with smaller passenger vehicles, differences in size and stopping distance can make collisions more serious. Trucks require more space to slow down or maneuver compared with typical passenger vehicles.

Rural intersections may also have fewer traffic signals or warning devices. Drivers must rely on clear visibility and careful timing when approaching or crossing these roadways, particularly when larger vehicles or farm-related traffic are present.
