Why Rural Highway Intersections Can Be Risk Areas for Collisions
Intersections such as Highway 148 and 130th Street often connect local county roads with busier state highways. Vehicles traveling along the highway may move at higher speeds, while traffic entering from smaller roads must carefully judge when it is safe to cross or turn.
When larger vehicles like semi-trucks share the roadway with smaller passenger vehicles, differences in size and stopping distance can make collisions more serious. Trucks require more space to slow down or maneuver compared with typical passenger vehicles.
Rural intersections may also have fewer traffic signals or warning devices. Drivers must rely on clear visibility and careful timing when approaching or crossing these roadways, particularly when larger vehicles or farm-related traffic are present.
