Black Canyon City, AZ (March 15, 2026) – Two people were ejected from a vehicle during a single-vehicle rollover crash on Interstate 17 north of Black Canyon City on Friday afternoon, March 13.
The crash occurred near milepost 144 and caused significant delays for northbound traffic leaving the Valley. Authorities reported that both occupants were thrown from the vehicle during the rollover, though their current conditions have not been confirmed.
Following the crash, mainline lanes were closed while emergency units responded. The Arizona Department of Transportation diverted northbound traffic to flex lanes to manage the congestion. Lanes reopened around 3:15 p.m., allowing traffic to resume normal flow.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
Our thoughts are with those involved as they receive medical care.
Risks of Single-Vehicle Rollover Crashes on Highways
Single-vehicle rollover crashes often occur when a driver loses control, particularly at higher speeds on highways or around curves. These accidents can be especially dangerous because occupants may be ejected if they are not properly restrained, increasing the likelihood of severe or life-threatening injuries.
Rollover crashes can also block multiple lanes of traffic, creating secondary hazards for other drivers and delaying emergency response. Authorities often recommend wearing seatbelts at all times and reducing speed on curves or uneven roadways to minimize the risk of rollover accidents.
