California, MD (March 16, 2026) – A 59-year-old man was seriously injured after crashing an electric bike at an intersection in California, Maryland. The accident occurred around 11:21 a.m. on Sunday, March 15, at the intersection of Wildewood Parkway and Evergreen Way.

When responders arrived, they found the rider conscious and breathing after he struck his face and head on the pavement and loose gravel during the crash. Due to the seriousness of his injuries, a medical helicopter was requested to assist with transport.

The injured man was first taken by ambulance to St. Mary’s County Regional Airport. There, he was transferred to a helicopter and flown to the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for further treatment.

Additional details about what led to the crash have not been released. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.

We are thinking of the injured man as he receives medical care.

Why Electric Bike Crashes Can Lead to Serious Injuries

Electric bikes, often called e-bikes, have become more common on roads and shared paths. These bikes can travel faster than traditional bicycles because they use a small electric motor to assist the rider.

Because of their speed and smaller frame, riders may face greater injury risks if a crash occurs. Unlike people inside passenger vehicles, e-bike riders do not have protective structures such as seat belts, airbags, or metal frames.

Surface conditions can also affect how an e-bike handles. Gravel, uneven pavement, or loose debris may cause the tires to lose traction, especially during turns or sudden braking.

Head protection and careful riding can help reduce injury risks, though crashes can still happen when road surfaces or obstacles create sudden hazards.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
3Consider having your case reviewed by a qualified attorney who can guide you through the next steps. They will safeguard your rights and pursue the compensation you deserve.
