What Factors Can Contribute to Bicycle Crashes on Coastal Highways
Bicycle crashes on highways near coastal areas can occur for several reasons, including limited shoulder space and higher vehicle speeds. Roads like state highways often carry steady traffic, which can increase risks for cyclists sharing the roadway.
Visibility can also be a factor, especially in areas with curves or changing light conditions. Drivers and cyclists may have less time to react when approaching one another.
Road design, traffic flow, and spacing between lanes and shoulders can influence how safely bicycles and vehicles travel together. Wearing visible gear and maintaining awareness of surroundings may help reduce the risk of collisions in these environments.
