Why Passenger Positioning Can Affect Injury Severity in Crashes
Where a person is located inside a vehicle can affect how severely they are injured in a crash. Seats are designed with restraints, such as seat belts and airbags, to reduce the risk of injury. Areas without these protections, such as cargo spaces or trunks, offer little safety in a collision.
When a crash occurs, occupants without proper restraints may be more exposed to sudden force or movement. This can increase the likelihood of serious injuries compared to those seated with safety features.
Vehicle safety systems are designed to protect people in standard seating positions. Following these safety guidelines can help reduce the risk of harm in the event of a crash.
