Saginaw, MI (March 31, 2026) – Two police officers and a suspect were injured after a crash at the intersection of North Mason Street and Cleveland Street in Saginaw.
The incident occurred around 10:00 AM on Sunday, March 29. Officers initially attempted a traffic stop after identifying a driver with a suspended license who was also believed to be frequently armed. The driver stopped briefly before fleeing, leading to a pursuit that was later called off due to unsafe speeds.
Shortly after the pursuit was terminated, the suspect continued driving at a high rate of speed. While officers were traveling north on North Mason Street, the suspect, heading west on Cleveland Street, ran a stop sign and crashed into their patrol vehicle. The impact caused the suspect’s vehicle to roll over and strike a nearby home.
Both officers were hurt, and one had to be removed from the vehicle by emergency crews. The suspect was also extricated. All three were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash, and more details will be released as they become available.
We are thinking of those injured as they recover.
What Can Happen After a Pursuit Is Called Off
Even after a pursuit ends, risks can remain if a driver continues at high speeds. Without emergency lights or sirens nearby, other drivers may not anticipate a speeding vehicle, increasing the chance of a crash.
Intersections are especially dangerous in these situations. Drivers who ignore traffic signs or signals can collide with vehicles traveling normally through the area. High speeds also raise the likelihood of rollovers and damage to nearby property.
Emergency crews often respond quickly to provide care and secure the scene, especially when vehicles overturn or people become trapped. These incidents highlight the ongoing risks tied to reckless driving, even after officers disengage.
