McCracken County, KY (April 2, 2026) – Two people were hurt following a crash along the 8700 block of Blandville Rd. Emergency units were called to the scene around 5:50 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1, after reports of a collision involving two vehicles.
Authorities said a GMC Yukon was traveling eastbound while a Mercedes-Benz E-Class moved westbound on the same road. For reasons not yet clear, the Mercedes crossed into the opposite lane and sideswiped the SUV.
A witness driving ahead of the SUV reportedly steered off the road to avoid being hit. The SUV driver, identified as 60-year-old Kelly Harris of Paducah, was unable to avoid the impact and was struck.
The force of the crash caused the Mercedes to overturn into a nearby creek off the left side of a railway. The SUV spun before coming to a stop in the roadway. Both drivers were reported to be injured, though the extent of their injuries has not been released.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.
What Can Cause a Vehicle to Cross Into Oncoming Traffic on Rural Roads?
Crashes in which a vehicle enters the wrong lane often occur on two-lane roads with limited separation between directions. These roads may lack barriers, making it easier for a car to drift across the center line.
Driver fatigue, distraction, or sudden medical issues can lead to a loss of control. In some cases, overcorrecting after drifting too close to the edge of the road may cause a vehicle to swing into oncoming traffic.
Road conditions can also contribute. Narrow shoulders, uneven pavement, or poor visibility during evening hours may increase the risk. When vehicles collide at angles like a sideswipe, the impact can cause spinning or overturning, especially near ditches, creeks, or uneven terrain.
