How School Bus Crashes Are Handled on Rural Roads
Crashes involving school buses can require careful coordination due to the number of people involved. Even when only a few passengers are injured, responders must account for all students and ensure their safety before clearing the scene.
Rural intersections may present visibility challenges, especially when roads meet at angles or have limited traffic control devices. Drivers approaching these areas may not always anticipate larger vehicles like buses entering the roadway.
Traffic disruptions can also last longer in these settings. With fewer alternate routes available, temporary closures may affect local travel until the roadway is cleared and safe for normal use.
