Miami-Dade, FL (April 2, 2026) – A motorcycle deputy with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office was injured in a crash on Wednesday, April 1, at the intersection of Southwest 127th Avenue and Southwest 120th Street.
Emergency units responded after reports that the deputy, identified as Christopher Rodriguez, was struck from behind while stopped at a traffic light. Rodriguez, a former Officer of the Month, was taken to the hospital following the collision.
Reports indicate the intersection crash in Miami involved a pickup truck that rear-ended the motorcycle. Despite the impact, Rodriguez was conscious and able to walk to a stretcher before being transported for treatment. No additional details about the driver of the pickup have been released.
The crash remains under investigation, and more details may become available as authorities continue their review. We extend our thoughts to those injured and wish them a full recovery.
Why Rear-End Crashes Can Be Dangerous for Motorcyclists
Rear-end collisions can be especially dangerous for motorcyclists because they lack the protection that enclosed vehicles provide. Even at lower speeds, the impact force can throw a rider off the motorcycle.
Traffic lights and stop-and-go conditions can increase the risk of these crashes. Drivers who are distracted or fail to stop in time may not notice a motorcycle ahead.
Visibility also plays a role, as motorcycles are smaller and can be harder to see. Staying alert and maintaining safe following distances can help reduce the likelihood of rear-end collisions involving riders.
