Why Pedestrian Accidents on Highways Are Particularly Dangerous
Pedestrian collisions on highways are often fatal due to the high speeds of vehicles and limited reaction time. Drivers may have difficulty seeing someone on the roadway, especially at night or in low-visibility conditions.
Highways are not designed for pedestrian travel, so even brief exposure to traffic can be extremely hazardous. Protective measures such as pedestrian bridges, designated crossings, and reduced-speed areas in nearby zones can reduce risk, but accidents remain more likely when pedestrians enter active lanes.
