Cicero, IL (April 6, 2026) – Five people, including two officers, were hurt in a multi-vehicle crash early on Monday, April 6, at a busy Cicero intersection.

Emergency units responded around 4:49 a.m. to the intersection of Cicero Avenue and Roosevelt Road. According to initial reports, officers were following a vehicle believed to be connected to recent burglaries when the pursuit ended in a crash involving a semi-truck and two other vehicles.

Authorities said the suspect vehicle, described as a dark Acura SUV, fled northbound on Cicero Avenue. During the response, police vehicles collided with a turning semi and additional cars, leaving multiple vehicles with heavy damage.

Three civilians were taken to area hospitals with injuries described as not life-threatening. Two officers were also injured and transported for treatment, with one reported to be in surgery. The suspect vehicle continued north and has not been located.

The crash remains under investigation. Our thoughts are with those affected as they continue to recover.

How Multi-Vehicle Crashes Can Occur During Active Incidents

Crashes involving multiple vehicles can happen quickly when traffic conditions change unexpectedly. Situations involving urgent responses or fast-moving vehicles may increase the likelihood of collisions, especially at busy intersections.

Large vehicles, such as semi-trucks, require more space to turn and stop. When several vehicles are moving through the same area at once, limited reaction time can lead to impacts involving more than one vehicle.

Urban intersections often carry steady traffic in multiple directions. When sudden movements or changes occur, drivers may not have enough time to adjust, leading to chain-reaction crashes involving several vehicles.
