How Rollover Crashes on Rural Roads Can Become Deadly
Rollover crashes often happen when a vehicle leaves the roadway and encounters uneven ground or fixed objects. On rural roads, narrow shoulders and nearby trees can increase the risk of a vehicle overturning after losing control.
Vehicles like small SUVs can be more likely to roll when they strike obstacles or slide sideways. Once a rollover begins, the force can cause significant damage, especially if the vehicle hits trees or other solid objects.
Speed, road conditions, and driver experience all influence how these crashes occur. Rural areas may also have fewer barriers, which allows vehicles to travel farther off the road before stopping. These factors can contribute to more severe outcomes when a rollover takes place.
