Why Crossing Double Yellow Lines Can Lead to Serious Crashes
Double yellow lines are used to separate traffic moving in opposite directions. Crossing them is generally prohibited because it puts vehicles directly into oncoming traffic, increasing the risk of a head-on collision.
When a vehicle enters the wrong lane, drivers coming the other way often have little time to react. This can be especially dangerous for motorcyclists, who have less protection than car occupants.
Motorcycle crashes involving direct impact often lead to severe outcomes due to exposure during the collision. Staying within marked lanes and avoiding unsafe passing can help reduce the chances of these types of accidents.
