Madison, WI (April 9, 2026) – A school bus crash in Madison on Wednesday afternoon sent five children to the hospital and involved a collision with a dump truck.
The crash occurred near the Beltline as the school bus was turning onto South Park St from the eastbound lanes of U.S. Highway 12/18. According to Madison police, the bus collided with a dump truck traveling southbound.
Investigators reported that the dump truck driver, a 77-year-old man, ran a red light before the crash and was cited for the violation.
Five children were transported to UW Hospital with minor injuries. Two additional children were evaluated at the scene by paramedics and later released. Officials said the Madison Metropolitan School District worked directly with families for student reunification, directing parents to Lincoln Elementary School.
