Why Pedestrian Accidents on Highways Are Often Severe
Pedestrian crashes on highways often result in serious injuries due to higher vehicle speeds. Unlike city streets, highways are designed for fast-moving traffic, leaving little time for drivers to react when someone is on the road.
Visibility can also be limited at night or in poorly lit areas. Drivers may not expect pedestrians on highways, which can delay recognition and response. This increases the likelihood of a direct impact.
Pedestrians are fully exposed during these incidents, with no protection from the force of a moving vehicle. Even at moderate speeds, the impact can result in fatal injuries. Road design, lighting, and driver awareness all influence the occurrence of these crashes.
