Elephant Butte, NM (April 9, 2026) – A late-night crash in Elephant Butte left one person dead and multiple others injured, with investigators indicating alcohol may have been a contributing factor.
The collision occurred around 10:20 p.m. at the intersection of Warm Springs Blvd and State Rd 181. According to authorities, a 2019 Volkswagen traveling westbound crossed into oncoming traffic for reasons still under investigation.
The Volkswagen collided with a 2013 Lexus carrying four occupants.
One of the passengers in the Lexus, identified as 62-year-old Kyd Kendrick of Truth or Consequences, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Lexus and the occupants of the Volkswagen sustained injuries of varying severity and were transported to a hospital. Their current conditions have not been released.
Authorities stated that alcohol appears to have been a factor in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional details may be released as they become available.
