Intersection Crashes Involving Large Trucks Can Be Severe
Crashes at intersections can become more serious when large trucks are involved. Due to their size and weight, semi-trucks require more time and distance to stop, especially when approaching intersections controlled by stop signs.
Failure to yield can result in a direct impact with vehicles that have the right of way. These collisions often occur at angles that can cause significant damage, particularly to smaller vehicles.
Additional factors such as driver condition, reaction time, and vehicle load can affect how a truck responds in traffic. When these elements combine, the risk of severe outcomes increases, especially in rural or less-controlled intersections.
