What Makes Late-Night Motorcycle Crashes on Nevada Highways So Deadly?
Motorcycle crashes that occur in the early morning hours on Nevada highways tend to be among the most serious. Reduced visibility, lighter traffic, and higher speeds late at night can all contribute to collisions, leaving riders with little protection. Unlike occupants of enclosed vehicles, motorcyclists are fully exposed to the force of any impact.
Crashes between motorcycles and larger vehicles, such as pickup trucks, are particularly dangerous due to the size and weight difference between them. In Las Vegas, highways like I-11 carry a mix of local and through traffic at all hours, and nighttime conditions can make it harder for drivers to spot motorcycles in time to react. The outcome of these crashes is often fatal, even when both drivers are otherwise following the road.
