Manchester, NH (April 24, 2026) – Two children were seriously hurt after the electric bike they were riding collided with a southbound vehicle at Union and Hanover streets in Manchester Thursday, April 24, at around 3 p.m. An ambulance already in the area was flagged down at the scene, and additional emergency units were called in to assist.

Both kids were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. Doctors expect both to survive. The area around the intersection was shut down to traffic while medical crews worked on the children.

Because no other ambulances were immediately available in Manchester, mutual aid was requested from a neighboring community to help with the response.

The incident remains under review by authorities. Our thoughts are with both children and their families as they recover.

What Should Families in New Hampshire Know About E-Bike Safety for Kids?

Electric bikes have grown in popularity across New Hampshire, including in cities like Manchester, where they offer a fast and low-cost way to get around. However, e-bikes can reach higher speeds than traditional bicycles, which increases the risk of serious injury in a crash, especially for younger riders. Children may not always have the experience or reflexes needed to handle an e-bike safely in busy urban traffic.

Intersections are among the most common locations for e-bike crashes, since riders must contend with turning vehicles, pedestrians, and changing signals all at once. Helmets and protective gear are strongly recommended for any rider, but they become even more important at higher speeds. Parents and guardians should carefully consider whether a child is ready for the added speed and responsibility that comes with riding an e-bike in traffic.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
3Consider having your case reviewed by a qualified attorney who can guide you through the next steps. They will safeguard your rights and pursue the compensation you deserve.
