North Castle, NY (April 24, 2026) – A 36-year-old woman was hurt after her SUV overturned on southbound Interstate 684 near Exit 3 for Route 22 in the Town of North Castle Thursday, April 24, a little after 8:30 a.m. The crash occurred during the morning commute and led to the full closure of the exit ramp.

The driver, a New Windsor woman, lost control of her 2015 Subaru while traveling southbound. The vehicle struck a guide rail and overturned. She was taken to Westchester Medical Center for evaluation of reported pain.

All lanes of the exit ramp were blocked while emergency units responded to the scene. The ramp had reopened by Thursday afternoon.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. Our thoughts are with the driver as she recovers.

What Causes Drivers to Lose Control on New York Interstate Ramps?

Exit and entrance ramps on New York interstates require drivers to slow down and steer through curves, which demands more attention than straight highway driving. When a driver enters a ramp at too high a speed or makes a sudden steering correction, the vehicle can become difficult to control. SUVs and taller vehicles are particularly prone to rolling over in these situations because of their higher center of gravity.

Morning commute hours on roads like I-684 in Westchester County tend to bring heavier traffic and added pressure on drivers. Fatigue, distraction, or simply unfamiliarity with a ramp’s curve can contribute to a loss of control. Ramp closures during peak morning traffic also create ripple effects that can back up traffic across a wide area.
