St. Charles Parish, LA (April 27, 2026) – A man who was reported missing following a crash on Interstate 10 has been found deceased days later near the Interstate 10 and Interstate 310 interchange. The incident began around 1:30 a.m. on April 19, 2026, when a multi-vehicle crash occurred near milepost 220 on Interstate 10 east.
Authorities said the man, later identified as 45-year-old Jonathan McFarland of Collinston, was seen walking away from one of the vehicles involved in the crash. He had been in the area for work and was reportedly traveling toward a friend’s home in New Orleans before the incident.
Search efforts were conducted at nearby locations, including a hotel and residential areas, but he was not located at that time. Days later, on April 23, 2026, investigators and marine units located McFarland’s body in a swampy area near the I-10/I-310 split, about a quarter-mile from the original crash site.
His remains were transported to the Jefferson Parish Forensic Center for an autopsy. No additional details have been released. The incident remains under review by authorities.
We extend our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.
What Happens After a Person Goes Missing Following a Crash?
When someone is reported missing after a traffic crash, search efforts often involve multiple agencies and expanded areas of investigation. This can include nearby roadways, businesses, and surrounding terrain.
If the individual is believed to have left the crash scene on foot, search teams may also check wooded areas, waterways, or difficult terrain, depending on location conditions. Weather and visibility can play a role in how quickly searches progress.
Once a person is found, officials typically conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death and whether injuries from the crash contributed to the outcome. These findings can take time to complete.
