Why Head-On Crashes Often Require Rescue and Road Closures
Head-on collisions are among the most serious types of crashes because they involve direct impact between two vehicles traveling in opposite directions. Even at moderate speeds, the force of impact can lead to significant injuries and vehicle damage.
When entrapment occurs, emergency crews may need to perform extrication by removing doors or stabilizing vehicles before patients can be safely moved. These situations often require full road closures to give responders space to work safely.
Investigators typically review roadway alignment, speed, and driver positioning to determine how the crash occurred. Early morning conditions, such as reduced visibility and commuter traffic, are also commonly considered in these incidents.
