Motorcycle Crashes Involving Semi-Trucks
Motorcycle crashes involving semi-trucks usually lead to severe injuries because riders have little protection during impact. Unlike passenger vehicles, motorcycles offer no surrounding frame, airbags, or crumple zones to absorb the force of a collision. A truck’s size and weight can make even a brief or glancing contact extremely dangerous for someone on a motorcycle, often resulting in the rider being thrown from the bike or run over by the vehicle.
Highway crashes can be especially serious during rush hour, when traffic volume is at its highest and driver fatigue is more common. Heavy traffic, frequent lane changes, and sudden slowdowns may leave little room for drivers and riders to react. Motorcycles are also smaller in profile and can be harder for truck drivers to spot, particularly in blind spots that large commercial vehicles are known to have on both sides and directly behind the cab.
