Rollover Risks in School Bus Accidents
School bus rollover crashes can be frightening because many passengers may be on board at once. Even when injuries are not life-threatening, students and staff may need medical checks after the bus tips onto its side. The size and height of a bus can make these crashes more complex.
Curves on rural highways can create added risks when vehicles meet in opposite lanes. If a bus leaves the pavement, a ditch or raised shoulder can increase the chance of a rollover. The weight of the bus can also affect how it moves after leaving the road.
These accidents often lead to long traffic delays. Crews may need time to assist passengers, move the bus, and clear debris before lanes reopen safely.
