Petersburg, VA (April 30, 2026) – A two-vehicle crash in Petersburg Wednesday evening left two people injured and caused damage to nearby utility infrastructure.
According to local officials, the accident occurred around 7:40 p.m. at the intersection of Flank Road and Johnson Road. Petersburg Fire and EMS units responded to the scene, where Engine 5 found two heavily damaged vehicles.
During the response, crews discovered that a fire hydrant had been knocked out of the ground as a result of the collision. The water department was requested to address the issue. Additionally, a Verizon representative was called after a fiber optic cable box was damaged in the crash.
Two individuals were evaluated at the scene by medical personnel. Both were transported to area hospitals—one by Southside Virginia Emergency Crew and the other by Dinwiddie Fire & EMS—for further care.
The crash caused temporary disruptions in the area as emergency crews worked to secure the scene and address the damaged infrastructure.
Authorities have not released further details regarding the cause of the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
