Student Safety Near School Crosswalks
School arrival times can create busy traffic conditions near campuses. Cars may stop, turn, merge, or move through drop-off lanes while children walk nearby. This can increase risk around crosswalks, especially when traffic is moving at higher speeds.
Marked school zones can help alert drivers that children may be crossing. Signs, lower speed limits, and crossing guards can give drivers more time to react. These features are often used near campuses where students walk from nearby streets or parking areas.
Children may be harder for drivers to see because of their height and quick movements. Morning glare, parked cars, and busy drop-off areas can also reduce visibility. Clear traffic patterns and visible crossings can help make school entrances safer for students and families.
