How Median-Crossing Crashes Can Result in Severe Collisions
Crashes involving vehicles crossing a median into oncoming traffic often lead to serious outcomes. These collisions can occur at high speeds, increasing the impact force between vehicles traveling in opposite directions.
Median barriers are designed to prevent crossovers, but not all roadways have them. When a vehicle enters opposing lanes, other drivers may have little time to react or avoid a collision.
Investigators often review vehicle movement, road conditions, and possible driver actions to understand how a vehicle left its lane. The angle of impact and final positions of vehicles also help explain how the crash unfolded.
