How Passing in No-Passing Zones Can Lead to Head-On Crashes
Head-on crashes often occur when a vehicle crosses into oncoming traffic while attempting to pass. No-passing zones are typically marked in areas where visibility is limited or where road conditions make passing unsafe.
When a driver enters the opposite lane without a clear path, there may be little time to avoid an oncoming vehicle. These types of crashes can be severe due to the combined speed of both vehicles at impact.
Road markings, signage, and traffic flow are key factors in determining where passing is safe. Ignoring these restrictions can place drivers directly in the path of oncoming traffic, increasing the risk of fatal collisions.
