What Investigators Review After Head-On Highway Crashes
Head-on crashes are among the most serious types of roadway collisions because both vehicles may be traveling at significant speeds before contact occurs. The force created during these crashes can lead to severe or fatal harm, even when modern safety features are present.
Investigators commonly examine tire marks, vehicle damage, and roadway positioning to determine how a vehicle crossed into opposing traffic lanes. Weather conditions, driver visibility, medical emergencies, and distraction may also be reviewed during the examination process. In rural or two-lane highway corridors, limited separation between travel lanes can increase the danger of crossover crashes.
Traffic investigators may also analyze debris patterns and electronic vehicle data when available. These details can help reconstruct vehicle movements and provide a clearer timeline of what occurred before the collision happened.
