Akron, OH (January 15, 2026) – A 62-year-old pedestrian tragically died Tuesday evening after being struck by a vehicle on Brittain Rd in Akron, according to local authorities.
The victim, identified as Teodoro Garcia Orrala, was hit around 6:05 p.m. while crossing in the crosswalk in the 1600 block of Brittain Rd, near the entrance to the Fred Nimmer Apartments. Akron Police and emergency medical services responded quickly to the scene and transported Orrala to Akron City Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:38 p.m.
The driver involved, a 24-year-old operating a northbound Ford Explorer, remained at the scene and cooperated fully with law enforcement. The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation, including whether traffic signals or right-of-way laws were violated.
Authorities with the Akron Police Department and the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office continue to review the details of the tragic incident.
