Why Are Pedestrian Crashes on Interstates So Dangerous?
Interstates are designed for higher speeds and steady traffic flow. When a pedestrian is present on this type of roadway, drivers often have limited time to react.
Other factors, like low light in the early morning, can further reduce visibility. Vehicles traveling at highway speeds require more distance to stop, which can increase the severity of a collision.
Barriers, limited shoulder space, and fast-moving traffic also make these scenes more complex. Even brief lane closures are common as crews work to clear the area and restore safe travel conditions.
