Alexandria, MN (May 15, 2026) – A two-vehicle crash occurred Friday morning at the intersection of County Road 46 and Nevada Street in Alexandria. Emergency units responded to the scene at approximately 8:12 a.m. after reports of a collision involving a passenger vehicle and a semi-truck.
Preliminary information indicates that a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox was traveling southbound on Nevada Street when it entered the intersection and collided with a westbound 2020 Volvo semi-truck on County Road 46. Both vehicles sustained damage from the impact, and the Chevrolet’s airbags deployed.
The driver of the Chevrolet Equinox, 18-year-old Easton James Klimek of Alexandria, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Alomere Hospital for treatment. A 15-year-old passenger, Carson Richard Klimek of Garfield, also sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was evaluated at Alomere Health. The driver of the semi-truck, 52-year-old Ronald Merlin Lyman of Wahpeton, North Dakota, was not injured.
Officials reported that all occupants involved were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Road conditions were dry during the incident, and both vehicles remained at the intersection following the collision.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, and more details will be released as they become available. We are thinking of those injured as they continue to recover.
What Investigators Review in Rural Highway Intersection Crashes
After intersection crashes on rural highways and county roads, investigators typically focus on right-of-way conditions and vehicle movement approaching the junction. These areas often involve mixed traffic speeds, in which passenger vehicles and large commercial trucks must coordinate to cross paths.
Damage patterns, intersection layout, and final vehicle positions are commonly analyzed to determine how the collision occurred. Investigators may also review sight distance, signage placement, and traffic control devices present at the intersection.
Because semi-trucks are involved in some crashes, braking distance and load weight can also be evaluated to understand stopping capability. These factors help establish how both drivers approached and entered the intersection at the time of impact.
