ANAHEIM, Orange County, Calif., Nov. 5, 2026 — Multiple vehicles collided early Wednesday morning, November 4, on the westbound Route 91 connector to northbound Interstate 5 in Anaheim, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP said the incident began with a report of a blue sedan colliding with a silver Kia Soul, with both vehicles blocking lanes on the connector. Additional units responded to a second collision involving a blue BMW coupe and a gray Kia Soul, which also blocked the number one lane and the right shoulder. Both parties in that crash were reportedly out of their vehicles at the time.
A separate call came in through an iPhone crash notification, with a male caller advising he had been involved in a traffic collision. Authorities also responded to a report that a party driving a Ford Trans, the CHP log showsit van was struck by a barrel in the roadway, and requested a tow near the Magnolia Avenue off-ramp. A barrel in the roadway was also reported blocking the number one lane separately. One vehicle involved in the incident reportedly caught fire, prompting a fire response at the scene.
The CHP's description of the event shifted during the response, from a collision with unknown injuries to one in which an ambulance was en route.
The investigation remains active. We are hoping for the best for everyone involved and their families.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does following distance matter so much in heavy traffic?
Leaving enough space between vehicles gives drivers time to react to sudden braking or debris in the road, like the barrel reported in this incident, and can prevent one crash from triggering another.
Do secondary crashes usually happen after an initial wreck?
Yes. When an initial collision blocks lanes, approaching drivers may have little time to slow down or change lanes, which can lead to additional, separate collisions nearby, as appears to have happened here.
What makes multi-vehicle crashes difficult for investigators to sort out?
When several unrelated or loosely connected collisions occur close together in time and location, investigators have to determine which vehicles were involved in which incident, and in what order the collisions happened, before assigning any cause.
