EL CAJON, San Diego County, Calif., Nov. 5, 2026 — Three vehicles collided on westbound Interstate 8 near State Route 67 early Wednesday morning, November 4, with one vehicle rolling onto its side, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP's traffic log describes a red SUV overturned on its side alongside a gray Nissan Rogue and a gray sedan. An earlier report logged by the agency had also referenced a two-vehicle collision with one vehicle overturned, and noted that all occupants were out of their vehicle by the time crews arrived. The crash was reported in the number one lane of westbound I-8 and blocked both the number one and number two lanes, prompting a SigAlert shortly after 6:40 a.m.
The CHP log noted that occupants were out of the vehicles when the call came in and listed the incident under a code the agency uses for crashes without reported injuries. The extent of any injuries has not been confirmed so far. Multiple tow companies were requested to the scene, including a rotation call for a third truck, as crews worked to clear the wreckage from the roadway.
A California Highway Patrol Freeway Service Patrol unit responded and later closed out its portion of the incident.
The crash remains under investigation by the CHP. We are hoping for the best for everyone involved and their families.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which vehicles are most prone to rollovers?
Taller, narrower vehicles such as SUVs and pickup trucks have a higher center of gravity and are more likely to roll over than low-profile passenger cars, especially during sharp steering maneuvers or when a tire catches an edge or curb.
How does seat belt use affect rollover survival?
Seat belts keep occupants positioned inside the vehicle during a rollover, which lowers the chance of being thrown against the roof or ejected. Unbelted occupants face a much higher risk of serious injury in a rollover crash.
What is a "tripped" rollover?
A tripped rollover happens when a vehicle's tire strikes an object, curb, soft shoulder or guardrail, causing it to flip instead of sliding. Most rollovers on highways are tripped rather than caused by high speed alone on a flat, open road.
