Understanding Moped Safety and Risks
Moped crashes can be deadly due to the minimal protection riders have, especially when helmets are not worn. Head injuries are among the most common and serious consequences.
Intersections and left turns are frequent sites of collisions, often because drivers fail to see or yield to mopeds. Reduced visibility, driver distraction, and speed differences between vehicles and mopeds can increase the risk of accidents. Protective gear, defensive riding, and awareness of traffic laws help reduce the risk of severe injuries or fatalities among moped riders.
