Why Scooter and Pedestrian Hit-and-Run Crashes Are Serious
Crashes involving scooters can cause severe injuries because riders have little protection from impact. A person on a scooter may be thrown to the ground or hit by another part of the vehicle. Head injuries, broken bones, and internal trauma can happen even at lower speeds.
Hit-and-run crashes can also delay help for the injured person. When a driver leaves, witnesses and emergency units may have less information about the vehicle, direction of travel, and how the crash happened.
Roads near intersections can be especially dangerous for scooter riders. Drivers may be turning, changing speed, or watching for other traffic. Visibility, lighting, and traffic volume can all affect how quickly a driver sees someone crossing or riding nearby.
