ANNISTON, Calhoun County, AL, Sept. 27, 2026 — A pedestrian died Friday night, September 25, after being struck by an SUV on Alabama 202 west of Anniston, according to state troopers. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency has identified the person as a 44-year-old man from Anniston.
Troopers said the crash happened around 8:57 p.m. near North Hunter Street, about a mile west of the Anniston city limits. The person was reportedly in the roadway when he was hit by a Jeep Compass, according to ALEA. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the SUV, identified by troopers as a 21-year-old woman of Anniston, was injured in the crash and taken to Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center for treatment. The severity of those injuries has not been released.
ALEA troopers are continuing to investigate the crash. No further details on how or why Johnson came to be in the roadway have been made public.
