The woman was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
Officials said the driver of the Nissan remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. The victim’s identity will be released after the next of kin have been notified.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. Our condolences go out to the victim’s loved ones.
Why Moped and Scooter Crashes Often Lead to Serious Injuries
Mopeds and small scooters offer less protection than enclosed vehicles. When a collision occurs, riders are exposed to direct impact with other vehicles or the roadway.
Intersections can be especially risky for moped riders. Drivers entering from side streets or alleys may have difficulty seeing smaller vehicles approaching in traffic.
Even when riders wear helmets, other injuries can occur because the body is not protected by a vehicle frame. Sudden braking or attempts to avoid a collision may also cause a rider to fall before impact.
Traffic awareness from both drivers and riders can help reduce these incidents, especially in areas where vehicles frequently enter the roadway from driveways or alleys.
