Frequently Asked Questions
What typically causes crashes like this one?
Collisions on freeway off-ramps and merge areas are commonly tied to sudden speed changes, following too closely, or a driver misjudging gaps in traffic as vehicles slow for an exit.
Does speed make a difference in how serious a crash is?
Yes. Higher speeds give drivers less time to react and increase the force involved in a collision, which usually means more serious vehicle damage and injuries.
Why is distracted driving considered so risky?
Even a few seconds of a driver's attention away from the road can mean missing a slowing vehicle ahead or a merging car, especially in congested freeway sections like exit ramps.
Can weather or road conditions play a role in collisions like this?
Wet pavement, glare, or poor visibility can reduce traction and reaction time, though it's not yet known whether conditions were a factor in this crash.
