ASHEBORO, Randolph County, N.C., Nov. 6, 2026 — A sheriff's deputy suffered minor injuries on Wednesday, November 4, after a driver struck two patrol vehicles and led deputies on a chase that ended on NC 42.
Deputies were carrying out an undercover investigation into prostitution when they moved to take people inside a vehicle into custody, the sheriff's office said. The driver reportedly pulled away during that approach and struck two Randolph County Sheriff's Office vehicles before leaving the parking lot.

The suspect was located later on Wednesday evening in Greensboro with help from the Guilford County Sheriff's Office and was taken to jail in Randolph County. The driver, identified by authorities as 41-year-old Gina Marie Upton, faces three counts of felony assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, felony fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, felony resisting a public officer, and felony resisting a public officer causing serious injury. She is being held without bond and is scheduled for a court appearance on Friday.

Check for injuries, move to a safe spot if possible, call 911, and exchange information while waiting for law enforcement to arrive and document the scene.
Where do most traffic crashes happen?
Many crashes occur at intersections and parking areas, where vehicles cross paths or merge at close range, as well as on roads with higher speeds.
What can drivers do to stay safer on the road?
Keeping a safe following distance, staying alert near parking lots and intersections, and avoiding distractions can help a driver respond in time to avoid a crash.
